It is about seven decades ago that modern Nepali epic started to appear, first with the great works of the revered poet Laxmi Prasad Devkota. Today, Nepali literature has about a dozen of what can be rightfully termed as 'epics' in its store, written in both traditional and modern styles. Yet during the last twenty years, Nepali poetry has begun to take a new shape in form and style. Two epic poets of an older generation, namely Jagadish Shamsher Rana and Mohan Koirala have also become renowned as great experimenters of Nepali poetry. Gopal Parajuli proves himself as the greatest one since, a most dynamic radical in the true sense if his experimentation, as strong challenge to tradition, is evaluated properly. His novelty lies in founding different areas of creative ground.

Gopal Parajuli is one of the most honored trendsetters in modern Nepali literature. He stands for the mark of departure from conventional writing. His forte is poetry and he has made a very substantial contribution to Nepali poetry by giving it a new form and style and by proposing a new philosophy through it.
